East Asia, China, ca. 19th century CE. A skillfully carved wooden figure who appears to be an entertainer, probably an acrobat, placing his foot on an acrobat's wheel, dressed in an elaborate costume - with zoomorphic elements adorning the sleeves and a tiger skin belt - all gilded and adorned with red pigment. Beneath this are inner garments with a white-on-blue dotted pattern. He presents a dark complexion and a pulled back, long black coiffure that runs down his back. The figure performs his trick upon a black base. Comes in a red-satin lined, blue fabric covered decorative box. Size: 7.625" H (19.4 cm)
