Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Bali, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A figural wood carving of a standing pedanda / maharshi (high priest or sage) in flowing garments incised with floral motifs, and anklets, and an ornate winged headdress. He is stooped with age and has a grinning, bearded face; one hand holds a staff with a bird head and the other is a lotus shaped vessel. Size: 6.5" Diameter x 16" H (16.5 cm x 40.6 cm)

  • Condition: Loss to upper right side of the headdress. Stable pressure fissure and loss to front of base, and stable fissure on verso. Old inactive insect holes across the surface. Nice patina throughout.
