South America, Argentina, Spanish Colonial, ca. 19th to mid 20th century CE. A beautiful high quality 87% silver mate drinking cup with a nickel-silver bombilla straw. The Spanish Colonial cup is comprised of 3 separate piece held together via a threaded bolt extending from the base of the gourd shaped bowl, a baulstered stem section and a bell shaped foot with a scalloped rim. The surfaces of the foot and cup are etched with zigzagging triangular motifs, and the side of the cup is inscribed "FA de E." The included bombilla is made much later, perhaps 20th century; a single piece with a tubular straw attached to a filter head with pierced perforations with a faint maker stamp.
