South America, Argentina & Uruguay, Pampas region, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A matching pair of leather riding stirrups likely used by gaucho cowboys. The large discoidal shape is comprised of several thick leather layers riveted together with iron nails that are arranged in a geometric pattern. At the top are thick straps and brass rings for securing to the saddle. Gaucho cowboys were proud of their station and took immense care of their tack, stirrups were symbols of their elite status.
