Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Native American, southwest United States, Navajo, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful silver bracelet cuff, featuring an openwork, floral design with a large turquoise inlay at the center. The brilliant, ovoid turquoise is surrounded by a rope motif border from which the petals of the flower radiate. . The silver was made by sandcasting, a technique that dates to the mid-seventeenth century CE. Using a special type of sand with a clay-like consistency, a mold is created in two halves and fastened together; molten silver is poured into the mold and allowed to cool into its form. This leaves the silver with a matte finish and antique look; the technique is very difficult to master but is known to have been done by certain highly skilled Navajo artisans.
