Mexico, ca. 1940 CE. This is a painted leather and iron-studded ball glove from the traditional ball game, "el juego de pelota" or "pelota Mixteca", that has its origins in ancient Mesoamerica and continues to be played in Oaxaca and Guerrero. It is the Oaxacan variant that is most likely to use a glove; these gloves weigh 6 to 13 pounds (3 to 6 kg). They are both functional and works of art. Size: 7" W x 5-3/4" H (17.8 cm x 14.6 cm).
