Latin America, Mexico, 1925 CE. An ex-voto dedicated to Our Lady of Talpa and attributed to the Guadalajaran retablo maker Manuel Ibanez Espinosa. The painting depicts Carmen Bocera gravely ill in her bed at the right, two ladies at center praying to the vision of the Virgin and Child of Talpa at the left. The text below roughly translates, "In the month of February of the year 1925 Carmen Bocera became gravely ill and with no remedy for her illness Manuela Delgatillo and Antonia Gonzalez appealed to Our Lady of Talpa for a fast recovery of only a few days. This retablo is dedicated to give thanks to Our Lady of Talpa for alleviating her serious illness . . . 1925". Size: 11-1/2" x 9-1/4". Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, Santa Monica, CA.
