Description:

Western Europe, Spain, Toledo, ca. 1904 CE. A fantastic carbon-steel and brass artillery sword with a long blade and ornate hilt. Upon the fuller is the makers' mark: "ARTA FAB DE TOLEDO 1904." The hilt is comprised of a black wooden grip held in place by a brass wire twisted around the length. A curving brass knuckle guard extends out from one side of the cross guard, forming a curving quillion tip. Toledo has been famous for its swords since the Roman period, and the forging process developed in Toledo ensured that steel weapons would be simultaneously extremely hard and flexible. This sword undoubtably was valued for its strength and durability. Size: 39.5" L (100.3 cm)
