Description:

Central Asia, Indo-Persia, ca. 18th century CE. An illustrated manuscript page depicting a tranquil scene of a king and noblemen, framed in modern times and ready to display. Opaque watercolors and ink create the lush landscape with men having a discussion in the foreground under a tree. In the margins are additional foliage with deer and a lion. Miniature painting emerged in Persian art during the 13th century. Following the Mongol conquests, the genre displayed strong Chinese influence, and the tradition reached its peak during the 15th and 16th centuries. Persian miniature painting influenced other Islamic miniature traditions, including the Ottoman miniature created in Turkey as well as the Mughal miniature of India. This is a beautiful example with vivid colors and protected in a wood frame under glass. Size of page: 9.25" L x 6" W (23.5 cm x 15.2 cm); frame: 15.5" L x 12.25" W (39.4 cm x 31.1 cm)
