Description:

Central Asia, Turkey, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A lovely 94.37% gold ring set with an ovoid intaglio carved from verdant green jasper. Inscribed atop the intaglio face is a mirrored calligraphic presentation that would read in the correct orientation when pressed into wax or putty. The ovoid bezel secures the intaglio neatly, and the thick shank enables its wearability. Size (intaglio): 0.68" L x 0.51" W (1.7 cm x 1.3 cm); (ring setting): 0.62" L x 0.89" W x 0.88" H (1.6 cm x 2.3 cm x 2.2 cm); gold quality: 94.37% (equivalent to 22K+); weight: 9.7 grams; US ring size: 4.5

Provenance: ex-Dr. Corinne Bronfman estate, Washington D.C., USA, acquired via descent; ex-Marjorie Bronfman collection, Montreal, Canada, acquired prior to 1978
