Description:

South Asia, India, 18th to 19th century CE. A finely carved white marble statue depicting the elephant-headed deity Ganesha, seated upon a lotus pedestal in the "royal ease" pose, or lalitasana, with one leg folded beneath him. Ganesha's four arms are elegantly poised: his upper hands hold an axe and another implement, while his lower left hand grasps a modaka (sweet dumpling), symbolizing joy and fulfillment. His lower right hand is open in a gesture of blessing. Ganesha, revered as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings, is beautifully captured here with serene grace and divine benevolence. Size: 7.5" L x 4" W x 10.5" H (19 cm x 10.2 cm x 26.7 cm).
