Central Asia, Indo-Persian, ca. 18th to 19th c. CE. An elegant and hefty gilded silver bowl with gilded floral/foliage motifs in repeated repousse leaf-form elements around the bowl and the base. The base is heavy, while the bowl is delicate, made of very finely hammered silver; they are separated by tiered discs of silver, also finished in repousse and gilded. The hollow base may have been made to be placed over a hot brazier to heat the aromatic (perhaps floral) contents in the bowl. Size: 9.4" W x 5.8" H (23.9 cm x 14.7 cm); 30.9 oz (876 g)
