Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A fabulous glass intaglio of warm orange-red hues with an ovoid form and a flat face. On the face is an incised image of a cherub driving a chariot and holding the reins of a galloping horse. The intaglio is set within a modern ring made from 18K+ gold (77% fineness) with a bifurcated band and wide Herculean-knot shoulders with two small orbs inside. Size (ring): 0.75" W x 0.7" H (1.9 cm x 1.8 cm); size (intaglio): 0.4" L x 0.3" W (1 cm x 0.8 cm); US ring size 4.5; quality of gold: 18K+ (77% fineness); total weight: 2.4 grams.
