Western Europe, probably England or France, ca. 17th century CE. A beautiful plasma intaglio incised along the convex topside with a right-facing image of Psyche (Roman Anima) holding a slender laurel wreath over the head of the walking Eros (Roman Cupid). Both nude, the figures display dynamic movement based on a sense of veristic detailing. The intaglio is set within the ovoid bezel of a solid 89.56% gold ring setting with a maker's mark reading "B.J. 18" along the inside curve of the shank. Size (intaglio): 0.48" L x 0.43" W x 0.19" H (1.2 cm x 1.1 cm x 0.5 cm); (ring setting): 0.56" L x 0.88" W x 0.98" H (1.4 cm x 2.2 cm x 2.5 cm); gold quality: 89.56% (equivalent to 21K+); weight: 7.2 grams; US ring size: 8
