Description:

Germany, most likely Bavaria, 17th c. CE (and we think dated 1686). Wonderful rectangular "strong" box, probably used for collecting alms within the church, with scalloped sides, turned feet and decorated on the lid with added brass with florets in the corners a cross and "I- H -S" above "S-H" with small cross and numbers in the corners that we believe represent 1686. Size: 6.25" L x 4" W x 3" H (15.9 cm x 10.2 cm x 7.6 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Paul and Louise Bernheimer, Cambridge, MA and Laguna Woods, CA, acquired before 1980.
