Description:

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 16th century CE. A fine group of one-hundred flat coins, oblong in profile and extremely lightweight. The obverse sides depict a well-dressed figure riding a long-legged horse while wielding a lengthy spear. The reverse sides have several lines of illegible Cyrillic text. These coins were all found together in the city of Tver, Russia, and the total hoard count was 444 coins. A wonderful gathering of ancient European coinage! Size of largest (all fairly similar in size): 0.5" W (1.3 cm); grade of silver: 92% or less.

  • Condition: All coins have age-commensurate surface wear, slight bending to overall forms, small nicks to peripheries, fading to imagery on both obverse and reverse, with light tarnishing throughout. Some coins have light-green patina as well. Arranged in decorative design for photograph. Coins do not come in this display.
