Description:

Near East, Iran / Persia, Safavid Dynasty, ca. 1501 to 1722 CE. A set of 2 hand-built pottery jars of tall, tapered forms, each with a sloped shoulder and a thick rim that perhaps had a lid at one time. The exterior of each vessel is first covered with a white ground before being accentuated with elaborate decorations. The larger vessel incorporates black linear motifs with the blue pigment while the second vessel utilizes only blue pigment. Size (taller vessel): 7.36" W x 10.3" H (18.7 cm x 26.2 cm); (shorter vessel): 6.49" W x 7.3" H (16.5 cm x 18.5 cm)

Provenance: private Manchester, Vermont, USA collection; ex-private estate collection, Bennington, Vermont, USA, acquired in the 1960s
