Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok) culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 15th century CE. A charming, glazed pottery jar of globular form set on a flat bottom with tapered shoulders and a modest circular opening at its top. The vessel's exterior features bands of floral-aquatic registers including broad and spiky leaf scrolls, ornate vines, chrysanthemums, and fishes in a wonderful arrangement. The painted decorations are completed in a black-on-white manner over a dynamic cream-hued ground which turns a peach hue towards the vessels base. The vessel has a robust presence thanks to rotund form. A well-preserved example with an excellent sheen and craquelure accenting its exterior - gorgeous! Size: 7.5" W x 9.5" H (19 cm x 24.1 cm)
