Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok (Sawankalok) culture, Sukhothai Period, ca. 15th century CE. A charming pottery jar with sumptuous glazing and a beautiful black-on-white spiky leaf scroll painted across its exterior. The piriform silhouette features a rounded base set atop a flat discoidal foot. Its upper register features a slim, conical neck leading upward to a flattened lip opening. The surface is an intriguing interplay between a creamy glaze accenting the vessel's underlying buffware. Three floral registers separated by narrow linear borders encircle the entire vessel. A nice craquelure accents the glazed portions. Size: 4.8" W x 8.75" H (12.2 cm x 22.2 cm)
