Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ayutthaya Period, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. A gorgeous example of a Buddha head cast from brass. The face is wonderfully expressive, with downcast eyes, an aquiline nose, full lips, tall ears with elongated lobes, and a smooth brow. The coiffure is composed of dozens of small nodules indicative of hair, and a mortise atop the head is meant for an attachable ushnisha. Traces of gilding are spread across the forehead and, along with faint traces of pigmentation, suggest this head was opulently adorned when first created. Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 2.8" W x 4.4" H (7.1 cm x 11.2 cm); 7.875" H (20 cm) on included custom stand.
