Pre-Columbian, Caribbean, Arawak People, Taino, ca. 15th century CE. A skillfully carved stone amulet depicting a squatting monkey with hands behind his back, incised fingers and toes, as well as an expressive visage comprised of a wide mouth, protruding nose, delineated browline with eyes suggested by slight recesses, and petite ears. The simian amulet is drilled behind the neck for suspension, and the stone is inherently attractive presenting caramel brown and creamy beige hues. Size: .625" L x .625" W x 1.625" H (1.6 cm x 1.6 cm x 4.1 cm)
