Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, Majapahit Empire, ca. 15th century CE. A very old and fine example of an iron pinchet knife. The handle is in the form of a standing anthropomorphic figure whose head is bent forwards. The cast form has a great deal of detail on both the obverse and reverse sides, giving the figure clothing, jewelry, and a haunting guise. The forged-iron blade is wide with a slightly indented profile that tapers gently to a point. The wooden sheath bears a rich caramel hue and is comprised of a flared guard protector adorned with a foliate motif and a slender scabbard. Size w/ sheath: 11.5" L (29.2 cm); length of blade: 7.55" L (19.2 cm).
