Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, Majapahit, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A gorgeous necklace comprised of 90 red glass beads of varying sizes around the strand, and three beads - two small and one large - composing the dangling pendant. The beads vary in color between crimson, ruby, russet, coral, maroon, burgundy, and fuchsia, with some bearing darker swirled inclusions. Strung on a modern nylon strand, this is a wonderful and wearable set of ancient beads! Size (necklace): 12.75" L (32.4 cm); size (largest bead): 0.625" W (1.6 cm).

Provenance: private Missouri, USA collection, acquired 1965 - 1970s

  • Condition: Strung in modern times and wearable as shown. Beads are ancient, and nylon necklace strand is modern. Beads have surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, small chips and light roughness across most surfaces, and some fading to coloration on some beads. Light earthen deposits throughout.
