Description:

Western Europe, Italy, late Middle Ages to Renaissance, ca. 14th to 16th century CE. The remains of a forged-carbon-steel dagger with iron scalloped-edge discs that once served as the pommel and guard, now loosely attached to the tang. The handle grip, likely made of an organic material such as wood or bone, has long since disintegrated. The blade is thin and narrow, suggesting it was either a rondel or stiletto dagger, characterized by its slender, needle-like blade. Size: 10.5" L x 1.5" W (26.7 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: private London, UK collection; ex-private W.P. collection since the 1990s, acquired on the German art market
