Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Middle/Near East, Medieval Islamic Period, Mamluk, ca. mid-13th to early 16th century CE. An impressive hammered-copper bowl presenting a circular base and curved walls that rise to an annular lipped rim. This elegant dish is adorned with an elaborately decorated basin dominated by a thick band of marching men resembling kings. Each of these ancient men display a long skirt, a flat-topped headdress, a curling coiffure, and a pointed beard, and carries a tall spear and a petite bag. This regal procession surrounds several decorative registers of floral, striated, and braided motifs that end at a central tondo of Arabic script. A lovely border of an abstract geometric motif adorns the interior rim, and a lustrous layer of tin can still be seen on the base. Size: 8.25" in diameter x 1.375" H (21 cm x 3.5 cm)
