Description:

Western Asia, probably made in Khorasan, east Persia (Iran) / West Afghanistan, Seljuk (also Seljuq) period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A beautiful pottery bowl covered in turquoise-hued glaze distinctive of Bamiyan ware. The interior of the bowl is decorated with a band of patterned pseudo-script around the upper portion and adorned with an intricate, four-lobed knot in the center. The squat foot is unglazed and supports the broad walls and slightly in-folded rim of the body. Size: 6" W x 3.8" H (15.2 cm x 9.7 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA collection, by descent, moved from Germany in 1997, originally collected in the 1970s in Hamburg, Germany
