Description:

Central Asia, India, ca. 12th century CE. A lovely oil lamp carved from dark-grey schist with a circular base, a compressed spherical body, a sloped shoulder, and a singular projecting spout. Protruding from the midsection are three regal male heads with bushy mustaches, almond-shaped eyes, and bulbous head wraps, each with a vertically drilled suspension hole through the top. The shoulder and fill hole are surrounded by stylized petals and frets, and the top of the spout takes the shape of an elongated heart. A fine example from early India! Size: 3.7" L x 2.7" W x 1.6" H (9.4 cm x 6.9 cm x 4.1 cm).
