Description:

Central Asia, India / Pakistan, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely set of two hand-carved wooden chairs with squat legs, flat backs, flexible seats made from crosshatched strips of animal hide, and a pair of lathe-turned balusters. The shorter chair has a larger seat back incised with a four-petal floral motif, and intricate leafy patterns adorn the sides. The taller chair has a more-petite back that is decorated with dense geometric panels filled with multi-petaled flowers, and the legs and balusters feature dozens of slender rings. Rich patina envelops both chairs and imbues them with a finely-aged presentation. Size of largest (petite seat back): 17.375" W x 31" H (44.1 cm x 78.7 cm).
