**Originally Listed At $400**

Eastern Europe, western Russia, Slavic culture, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A bronze pendant in the form of an axe head known as an Axe of Perun or hatchet amulet- an archeological artifact shaped like a battle axe in honor of Perun, the supreme deity of the Slavic religion. Belonging to the Type 1 subgroup of Slavic axe amulets, this example presents a bearded form with a flat upper side, a knob-like protrusion extending from the heel, a petite perforation in the center, a flared butt, and an annular eye that serves as the suspension loop. Perun Axes have been found throughout Eastern and Northern Europe and are believed to not only have been worn as pendants, but also used as gifts and toys for children. A wonderful, wearable piece from the early Medieval period! Size: 1.5" L x 1.1" W (3.8 cm x 2.8 cm); 1.7" H (4.3 cm) on included custom stand.
