Description:

Cambodia, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A heavy grey stone Buddha head in Khmer style, carved with a serene facial expression, tightly curled hair nodes, pointed finials, heavily laden meditative eyes, a thin, aquiline nose, and elongated ear lobes (now gone). Khmer art moved away from Indian styles in the 7th century CE to encompass its own framework. Khmer sculptors had their artwork supervised by priests, and it unmistakably has a religious style, but it also has elements of naturalism. Size: 5" W x 7.5" H (12.7 cm x 19 cm)
