Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Zuni, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A sterling silver pendant and brooch in the form of the Zuni mythic figure known as Knifewing, who appears in human-eagle form with sharp flint feathers. This pendant is inlaid with nacre shells, spiny oyster shell, turquoise, and black onyx, surrouned by granulated spheres and rope twist silverwork. The verso is unmarked but has a brooch pin and clasp as well as the pendant loop. The piece is strung on a modern silver plated nickel-brass chain with three faceted stone set in each link - the pendant is removable to wear as a brooch. Size of pendant: 2.6" L x 2" W (6.6 cm x 5.1 cm); chain: 25" L (63.5 cm); silver quality: 92% to 93%; weight: 21.3 grams
