Description:

Pre-Columbian, Oaxaca, Zapotec, Monte Alban, ca. 100 to 600 CE. A delightful blackware vessel in the form of the leg and paw of a feline, likely a jaguar. The animal's leg forms the tubular body of the vessel flaring to an annular rim at the top, while a 4-toed foot extends from the base. Each toe is highlighted by a ribbon of raised flesh, indicating the joint of the toe, as well as an extending, tapered claw. The fifth claw protrudes from the side of the vessel, about one-third way up the leg. Size: 4.2" L x 3.1" W x 5.8" H (10.7 cm x 7.9 cm x 14.7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
