Description:

Ancient Asia Minor, Western Anatolia, Troy, Yortan culture, Early Bronze Age II, ca. 2700 to 2300 BCE. A hand-built pottery jar with a petite base, a rounded lower body, a tapering shoulder, a lightly-flared rim, and a quartet of pierced suspension lugs. The greyware vessel boasts intricate red-painted linear motifs with rectangular boxes enclosing intersecting lines surrounded by converging lines below. Vessels like this were filled with incense and hung inside of buildings or residences. Size: 3.6" W x 2.75" H (9.1 cm x 7 cm).

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Frances Artuner collection, Belgium, acquired in the 1960s
