Description:

Mexico, Guerrero, Xochipala, ca. 1500 to 1000 BCE. Showing strong Olmec influence and certainly inspired by trade with the Olmecs, this figure is not only early, but exceptional. Seated female with legs and arms spread, nude save headband and necklace. She has almond-shaped eyes with drilled pupils, hollow-molded with her navel acting as the vent hole with a suggestion of smallish breasts, probably an indication she is moving into child-bearing age. A very expressive and fine example! Size: 7-1/2"H x 8-1/2"W. Provenance: Ex-Sotheby's, NYC, NY, Sale 5458, Pre-Columbian Art, May 20, 1986, Lot 127 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
