Western Europe, World War I era, ca. 1914 to 1918 CE. A beautiful example of a trench art vase that is formed from a brass mortar shell. The narrow base is formed by 8 fluted grooves that gradually expand outward again just before reaching the stippled cylindrical body. Presented in repousse on the body is the image of a singular rose on one side with blooming petals and a thorny stem. Size: 3.125" W x 13.5" H (7.9 cm x 34.3 cm)
