Description:

France, 1914 to 1918. Unlike its predecessor, the location where this shell art was created has been lost. Its significance has not, however. Large brass casing from a deadly mortar shell, clearly fired during the war, and transformed into modern art. Lower half crimped into scalloped design, upper section painstakingly hand embossed into image of a lion, punched design of foliage surrounds. 87mm by 13-1/2" high. Shell stamped 1911.
