Description:

North Sea off Holland, Pleistocene period, 150000 to 20000 years ago. This is one of the most unique and rarest fossils from the great Wooly mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius, of the last European Ice Age. It is a very large and complete left scapula (shoulder blade) showcasing some of the rarest detail and genuine anatomical features. Unbelievably well preserved and COMPLETE with all processes, this priceless fossil required only repair to the forked dorsal process and some stabilization and filling of small fractures. Every bit of detail you see above is 100% GENUINE. This remarkable specimen is rare for two reasons - it is very large from a huge, fully grown male, and it is COMPLETE. A scapula from this beast never makes it to the public market as they are too valuable to use in the building of a skeleton. Furthermore, due to the fragile nature of the edges and large portions of this bone, it is almost NEVER found complete necessitating extensive fabrication of large areas of the fan-shaped regions. THIS SCAPULA HAS NOT UNDERGONE ANY KIND OF TYPICAL FABRICATION. Not only does this rare and massive fossil mammoth scapula represent a prize fossil of these Ice Age beasts, its natural sculptural aesthetic is a pure work of art. Size: 37" L x 28" W (94 cm x 71 cm).
