Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Inca, ca. 1500 CE. Terracotta vessel painted in bright, vivid colors. Classic form is perfect, one of the best we've ever seen. Although awkward in shape, vessels such as this one were used by the Inca during rituals requiring chicha (corn beer). Painted with two repeating bands of X's, one band of diamonds and bird with extended wings, head in high relief. A lovely example! Size: 5.75" W x 8" H (14.6 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: ex private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, ex Robert Morris Fine Art, 2009; ex Arte Xibalba, September 7, 2007; ex Andrea Llerena collection, Miami, Florida, USA
