Pre-Columbian, Central Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A wonderful poncho composed of tightly woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of coffee and cream. Likely made for a child based on the size, the rectangular poncho bears a quartet of cream-hued stripes that stream across the brown body. The peripheries are lined with loose fringe strands that make for an attractive presentation, and there is a central slit for pulling over the head. Mounted atop a museum-quality display fabric. Size (textile): 29.5" L x 27.4" W (74.9 cm x 69.6 cm); (display fabric): 47" L x 40" W (119.4 cm x 101.6 cm)
