Description:

Magna Graecia, western colonies, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. An attractive mold-made terracotta figure, standing with her right arm raised to her chest and her left by her side, donning a tall cylindrical headdress over her long coiffure and a chiton over her slender form. Like most examples from this part of the ancient world, she was made from a two part mold, one for the front and one for the back, the front section presenting fine details. Size: 10.875" H (27.6 cm)

Terracotta figures like this one have been found in private dwellings where they may have been part of a shrine or had a religious purpose. Others decorated tombs and sanctuaries.
