Description:

Western Europe, probably England or France, Medieval Period, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A cast-leaded-bronze stamp seal of a petite size comprised of a circular face with a perforated handle protruding from the verso. The discoid stamp face bears an incised, right-facing eagle surrounded by a register of stippling, and outside the stippled border is a Latin name reading "REYDERICVS," or Frederick, perhaps the name of the stamp's owner. Custom wax impression included. Size: 0.7" W x 0.9" H (1.8 cm x 2.3 cm)

  • Condition: Minor abrasions to stamp face and handle, with light softening to some incised details on stamp face, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout. Wax impression has been repaired from a few small pieces and stabilized with a paper backing.
