Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An elegant pottery bowl boasting a minimalist form of a round yet stable base, a carinated lower body, and lightly corseted walls that rise to a gently flared rim. Shallow dishes like this example were traditionally used for holding ceremonial offerings. Note how the deep black of the interior beautifully contrasts the burnt sienna hue of the exterior and rim.
