Description:

Classical World, Etruria, ca. early 6th century CE. A perfectly formed example of a miniature ceramic kyathos, a bowl-like vessel with a distinctive high handle. This example has a flanged border between the body and its convex base. The handle is tall and strap-like, cutting in sharply at a ninety-degree angle halfway up its height. A round boss studs the widest part. Bucchero is a specifically Etruscan style for firing pottery which results in a smooth, shiny black finish. This kyathos may have been made only to be buried with offerings, as much fine Etruscan pottery was. Size: 3.75" L x 2.9" W x 3.4" H (9.5 cm x 7.4 cm x 8.6 cm)
