Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fabulous and wearable necklace composed of dozens of ancient carnelian stone beads in hues of vermilion with creamy inclusions. The beads are carved with cylindrical, rounded, barrel, and lozenge shapes and hand-drilled for suspension. At the center are two spherical pendant beads and interspersed between the centrally strung beads are modern gold-plated spacers that add symmetry to the arrangement. This beautiful necklace is made wearable with a modern gold-plated lobster clasp. A lovely necklace comprised of ancient carnelian beads that displays wonderful artistry and will also compliment many outfits! Size: 16.5" L (41.9 cm), plus about a 1" drop pendant.

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s
