Description:

M. Yono (Japanese, 20th century). A large-scale batik painting on cotton, skillfully hand drawn using the 'canting' and 'tulis' techniques and then vividly painted by master batik artist M. Yono who was drawn to marine life and underwater scenes. This composition features a group of four fishes swimming through waters, amidst bubbles and elegant seaweed, all delineated in a tranquil palette of soft blue, sage green, sienna, mauve, gold, and more against the natural cream hue of the cotton. A wonderful composition that captures the mystique of the sea, signed by the artist on the lower right and nicely framed. Size of batik painting: 34.375" W x 26.375" H (87.3 cm x 67 cm) Size of frame: 36.5" W x 28.5" H (92.7 cm x 72.4 cm)
