Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, possibly Haida or Tlingit, dated 1955. An impressive totem pole model, skillfully carved from red cedar, and embellished with red and black pigments that boldly contrast with the natural wood. The totemic animals include a Thunderbird with outspread wings (separately carved and attached behind) perched atop a beaver with characteristic bucky teeth and hands across the chest. Handwritten on the verso is "OAXX Jun 17/55" and the piece is attached to a quaint stand comprised of a cross section from a cedar log. Size: 13.25" H (33.7 cm)
