Native American, Southwestern USA, probably Navajo (Dine), ca. mid 20th century CE. A fun necklace composed of 13 carved turquoise bears, the one at the center larger than the others, and dozens of turquoise cylinder beads spaced between the bears. Each bear is in a similar pose, on all fours with the head raised as if looking up at the viewer. The paws, ears, and snouts are each delineated in a schematic style classic of the region. Conical silver terminals and a silver clasp complete the piece, which is wearable today! Length of necklace: 28.5" L (72.4 cm); size of largest bear: 1.55" W (3.9 cm)
