Mexico, 20th century CE. This is a painted wooden pastorela dance mask, with a "devil" style, including bright red, projecting horns and a comically horrifying mouth. Pastorelas are plays that recreate the biblical passage where the shepherds follow the Star of Bethlehem to find the Christ Child, and that are traditionally performed in Mexico during the Nativity season.
