Native American, Northwest Coast, Inuit, ca. 1970s. A haunting spirit mask, traditionally made from caribou hide and modeled over a wooden mold, and presenting with openwork eyes and mouth, rounded cheeks, a protruding curved nose, and a jutting chin, with white fur used to render a parka hood, hair, and brows. See a pair of similar masks at the Spurlock Museum (University of Illinois) created by elder and renowned hunter Simon Paneak. Size: 11" L x 8" W (27.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
