East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty to early Republic Period, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A wonderful high-quality silver (94%) belt buckle featuring repousse dragons. The buckle verso features an integral hook and a hinge with a ring for looping the belt through. The frontside is accented with enamel in purple, white, yellow, green, and orange. The dragons are quite detailed and fly over stylized waves, flames, and swirling clouds. One dragon has yellow scales, and the other has a gradated purple-to-white chest. The flames contain orange enamel, and the purple dragon clutches a green circular orb. This is a dramatic and wearable buckle! Size: 2.75" L x 2.375" W (7 cm x 6 cm); quality of silver: 94%; total weight: 37.8 grams.
